Groups for Women
Head for the Hills offers mountain bike skills coaching and training just for women in Adelaide. There are three courses available, each designed for a specific level of ability. These are:
- Introductory
- Beginner
- Intermediate
The lessons within each course are designed to progressively build confidence and competence on the bike. More information on the contents of each course can be found below.
We run each course twice per year in the warmer months, subject to demand. If booking is unavailable below, you can add your name to the mailing list and we will keep you updated on future programs.

Introductory Course
The Introductory Course includes 3 x 2 hour group coaching sessions designed to help riders tackle their first single track. Sessions are delivered at the Fox Creek trail network and will be centred around exercises on fire roads and wide, open trails.

The Introductory Course is designed for women who are brand new to mountain biking and riding off-road. We focus on:
- Using gears & brakes correctly
- Correct body position
- Developing confidence while standing
- Increasing stability on the bike
- Learning to ride narrow trails
- Navigating different corners
- General technique coaching and feedback

Beginner Course
The Beginner Course includes 5 x 2 hour group coaching sessions designed to give riders more confidence & control while riding trails. Sessions are generally delivered on green trails although we may venture onto some easier blue trails too!

The Beginner Course is designed for women who can ride some easy single tracks and want to further develop their skills. We focus on:
- Body position (seated & standing)
- Braking technique
- Cornering (bermed & flat)
- Weight transfer
- Vision
- Front & rear wheel lifts
- Clearing small obstacles
- Riding actively

Intermediate Course
The Intermediate Course includes 5 x 2 hour group coaching sessions designed to give riders a high level of control over the trail, allowing them to tackle complex trails with speed and safety. Sessions are generally delivered on blue trails although we will venture onto some easier black trails too!

- Drops & jumps
- Tackling steep & technical terrain
